Le Moulin, an ancient wheat mill, was built at Saint Antonin by Knights Templar, in the XIIth century.
When we first saw Le Moulin, it was a ruin. We reconstructed stone by stone these eight-hundred-year old walls of the ancient wheat mill.
There is a real purity drawn from the core purpose that all architectural details of Le Moulin are based on functionality. The size of the doors, windows and stairways, the texture and strenghth of stone, chestnut and the craft tiles combine to create a simple harmony which meets the needs of a rural life dependent on the land. We were drawn to the region by the vineyard and olives groves, the gorgeous mountain Sainte Vicotire, the Cezanne's mountain, and the old and charming town of Aix en Provence.
In 1883, Cezanne came to Saint Antonin to paint. Surprised by the nightfall, he spent a night at Le Moulin, sleeping in the hay. He wrote a letter to his friend, the writer, Emile Zola. "Yesterday, I stopped at Le Moulin, I spent the night on the premises and I slept in the folder."
Le Moulin was restored to be a comfortable and efficient as an American ho:me but with a 800-year old heritage.
There are two fireplaces if the evenings get cool but the entire house has central heating and each room is regulated by a thermostat.
In the summer time, you don't need air conditioning because the very thick walls keep the air fresh in the rooms. To preserve the coolness, you can darken the rooms by closing the wooden-shutterss at soon a midday.
On this home page, I'll introduce myself and talk about my reasons for wanting a web site. I might put a picture of myself on this page...or just a picture that I especially like.
